The Dewoitine 338 was a long range airliner designed for Air France in the mid 1930s. It was rugged and reliable, opened up French international air routes and established Dewoitine as a successful aircraft manufacturing company.

The Dewoitine 338 was an upgrade of the earlier 333 airliner of 1934. This improved version, that was designed in 1935-36, had retractable undercarriage and a longer fuselage that could accommodate up to 22 passengers on short routes and 12 (with six sleeping berths) on long routes.

Air France purchased a total of 31 Dewoitine 338s, using them initially on European routes and then introducing them on its Paris-Dakar route in 1936, Paris-Hanoi route and 1938 and a route to Hong Kong in August 1938.

During World War II they were used by Air France and Lufthansa and as troop transports, and eight survived to continue in post-war service.
