The Fokker 100 was a popular medium range airliner of the 1980s and 1990s. However, increased competition drove Fokker into bankruptcy so production stopped in 1996. Despite this, many remain in airline service today.

The Fokker 70 is a shorter version of the Fokker 100 airliner which was a modernised version of the earlier Fokker F-28.

Fokker began developing the Fokker 70 in 1992 as a replacement for the F-28, the first one made its first flight on 4 April 1993 and they began entering airline service in March 1995.

Production ceased after 47 aircraft had been produced when Fokker went bankrupt in March 1996.

Alliance Airlines was established in 2002, using the assets of the failed Flight West Airlines. It has an all Fokker fleet including 15 Fokker 70s that it acquired from Austrian Airlines.
