History

The Panhard AML-60 (Automitrailleuse Legere) was developed as a light armoured car in the 1950s. Over 5000 have been produced and it has been used by a large number of armed forces around the world.

In the late 1950s the French army sought a replacement for the British Ferret armoured car and the Panhard AML won the competition held to select it.

The prototype was completed in 1959 and the first AMLs were delivered to the French Army in 1961.

It was developed in several versions including the AML-60, the AML-90 and M3 armoured personnel carrier that shared 95 percent commonality with the armoured car.

Over 4000 have been produced in France and another 1300 under licence in South Africa.

They have served in over 40 nations. They have been modified in many versions and remain in service today.

This model represents an AML-60-7 of the French Army in the 1970s
