History

The EKW D-3800 was a Swiss licence manufactured version of the French Morane Saulnier 406 fighter. Eighty were manufactured between 1938 and 1940 and remained in front line service during World War II.

The French Morane Saulnier 406 fighter was manufactured under licence in Switzerland by EKW (Eidgenössische Konstruckions Werkstätten), a government owned manufacturing facility.

It had several modifications including a fully variable pitch propellor, a revised wing and Swiss radio and instruments.

Two aeroplanes were delivered to Switzerland in 1937 for evaluation and a contract to construct 80 aeroplanes was signed in February 1938.

The first machine was delivered in November 1938 and the final one was delivered in August 1940.

During World War II they helped defend Swiss airspace. The last one was scrapped in 1954.

This model represents a D-3800 at Dübendorf, Switzerland in late 1944.
