History

The Focke Wulf Fw190 was a powerful fighter/bomber used by Axis air forces during World War II. Over 20,000 were made.

The Fw190A version entered service in August 1941 and was improved in stages with the A-7 being an improved version, which entered production in November 1943, designed to better cope with American bombers.

This Focke Wulf Fw190 A-7 was flown by Obfw Adolf “Addi” Glunz in 5/JG 26, from the north of France in 1943.

He was credited with 72 aerial victories achieved in 574 combat missions flown between November 1940 until the war’s end in 1945. All but three were claimed over the Western Front. This score included 17 four engined bombers and 37 Spitfires.

Glunz was the only NCO in JG 26 to receive the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross.

He was never shot down or wounded in combat. He survived the war to become a Formula 3 racing driver and established his own driving School.
