The Dewoitine 9 was a 1924 development of the earlier Dewoitine 1 fighter.

It was not successful in France but was exported to several countries where it served into the 1930s

The Dewotine 9 was derived from the earlier Dewoitine 1 which was entered in the 1923 fighter competition for the French air force.

It first flew in 1924 and during the tests it was fitted with a larger wing which was later increased again in area.

The Dewoitine 9 was placed sixth in the competition and not ordered for production for the French air force but over 150 were manufactured.

It was successfully exported to Yugoslavia, Belgium and three were assembled in Switzerland and delivered to the Swiss Air Force in 1928.

In Italy it was manufactured as the Ansalso AC.3 and served in the air force into the 1930s.

This model represents Dewoitine 9, 677, flying in the Swiss air force in 1929.
