The Messerschmitt Bf109F was the second major version of this very important German World War 2 fighter. Many consider it the best version of the aircraft due to its performance and handling characteristics.

The ‘F’ version of Messerschnitt Bf109 fighter was the second major re-design and was considered by many to be the high water mark of the Bf109,

It featured new wings, improved aerodynamics and enhances performance.

Production began in August 1940 and some flew during the Battle of Britain.

Over 2000 Bf-109Fs with the ‘F-4′ version entering production in August 1941.

This model represents a Bf109F-4 sporting one of JG 5’s experimental camouflage schemes of RLM 70/74/75/76. This aircraft war flown by Oberfeldwebel Heinrich Bartels who was killed on 26 December 1944 in combat with P-47s of th 56th FG. His body was discovered in January 1968 still in his crashed aircraft. His parachute pack and his aircraft wreckage are now part of a museum display in Europe.
