The Aero Commander was a light business twin engined aircraft designed in the 1940s and manufactured in the Uniting Sates between 1951 and 1986. The Aero Commander 520 was the first production version of this range of aircraft.

The Aero Commander was designed by a group of Douglas engineers in 1944, a light business twin similar to the A-20 aircraft being manufactured by Douglas.

The design was finalized in July 1946 and the only prototype first flew on 23 April 1948.

The first production model, the 520, was rolled out in August 1951 and was then used as a demonstrator.

It proved popular and 150 were built before production switched to the Aero Commander 560, followed by more advanced models including a range equipped with turboprop engines.

The Aero Commander company was acquired by Rockwell-Standard in 1958 which continued to make the Aero Commander until 1986.
