History

The Aerospatiale AS.332 Super Puma was developed from the earlier Aerospatiale Puma. It has proved popular in civil and military use around the world and remained in production for over forty years.

The Aerospatiale (now Airbus Helicopters) Super Puma was a re-engined, more robust and enlarged version of the original Aerospatiale Puma.

Development commenced in 1974 and the first one made its maiden flight on 13 September 1978. (Super Pumas in military service have also been marketed under the AS532 Cougar designation.)

They have proved very popular, they have been flown by 35 air forces around the world and been flown in several combat areas.

They have also been popular with civil operators in many roles including supplying off-shore oil platforms.

By 2005 over 500 had been produced.

This model represents a Super Puma flying with the Argentine Army in Antarctica in the 1980s
