History

The Airbus A.310 was a development of the Airbus A.300 designed to carry slightly less passengers, Its passenger capacity and longer range made it popular with airlines and 225 were manufactured.

The Airbus A.310 was a derivative of the Airbus A.300 designed to meet airline requests for a slightly lower passenger capacity than the A.300.

It had a shorter fuselage, new wings and lighter undercarriage but otherwise shared a high commonality with the A.300.

It was launched in July 1978, the first one flew on 3 April 1982 and they entered service in April 1982.

It’s smaller capacity and longer range made it popular on the trans-Atlantic route.

Interest in it declined during the 1990s when the next generation of airliners began entering airline service, including the Airbus A.330, so the A.310 remained in production until 1998.

This model represents N401FE flying for FedEx in 2006.
