History

The Arsenal VG-36 was a high performance fighter development of the earlier VG-33 fighter.

It showed great promise but only the first prototype had flown by the time of the German invasion in 1940.

The Aresnal VG-36 was developed by the Arsenal dé l’Aéronautique from its promising VG-33 fighter, a competitor in the 1937 fighter competition that was won by the Dewoitine D.520.

The VG-33 had good potential, and constructed from non-strategic materials so it was ordered into production and the prototype first flew in the late spring of 1939.

The VG-36 had a more powerful engine, a streamlined radiator bath and other refinements that gave a significant improvement in performance.

The prototype made its first flight on 25 February 1940 but it was the only VG-36 to be completed before the German invasion in May 1940.

This model represents the sole prototype in March 1940.

Azur and TMA 1/72 kit completed by Leigh Edmonds in November 2013.
