The Boeing 737 is the most ordered and most produced jet airliner in history with over 6,000 manufactured and a further 2,000 on order in May 2009. On average there are 1,250 737s in the air at any given time.

The Boeing 737-400 was a stretched version of the 737-300.

It was designed as a replacement for the Boeing 727 but offered all the advantages of commonality with the 737-300 to airlines already flying it.

The 737-400 was launched in 1985, the first one flew on 19 February 1988 and they began entering service in October that year.

Production ended in February 2000 after 486 had been delivered.

This model represents N406KW which was flown by an airline unrelated to the original Pan American which had become bankrupt in 1991. It operated low-cost long-distance flights between the US and Caribbean destinations from 1996 to 1998.
