The Chengdu J-20 is a fifth-generation stealth twin engine fighter prototype developed in China. It is comparable in capabilities with the American F-22 and the Russian Sukhoi T-50.

The Chengdu J-20 (literally translated as Annihilator-Twenty) was developed from the late 1990s and selected for construction against a competing Shenyang proposal in 2008.

Two prototypes had been built by the end of 2010 and the first one made its maiden flight on 11 January 2011.

The J-20 may become operational in 2017-2019.

With the J-20 China becomes only the third nation to produce a fifth-generation stealth fighter in the class of the Boeing F-22.

There is a great deal of speculation about its construction and performance, the source of many of its design characteristics and equipment, and its ultimate capabilities.

This model represents the first Chengdu J-20 fighter in January 2011.
