History

This Curtiss P-40 was a workhorse fighter of World War II.

It did not have the elite performance of fighters like the P-51 or Fw190 but in played an important role in most theatres of war. Over 13,000 were manufactured and they served with all Allied air forces.

This model depicts a very weathered P-40E from the 11thFS,343rd FG, 11th USAAF, stationed in the Aleutians in 1942/1943.

The P-40s based there looked very weathered and worn due to the conditions there. The rear propellor blades were completely stripped back to bare aluminium due to the volcanic and sandy grit which was also seen on the wing leading edges.

Hasegawa 1/32 kit with kit and spares box decals. Brake lines added, instrument panel wiring added with aftermarket Eduard seat belts.

Painted with SMS lacquers, very faded and weathered Olive Drab based.

It has the salt method of weathering with MIG and AK Pigment powders used for further weathering, and mixed with plaster to form light mud.
