History
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was one of the main United States fighters of World War II.
It’s lack of a two-speed supercharger made it inferior to German fighters so it was rearely used in the European Theatre but served widely in every other theater of the war.
Almost 14,000 were manufactured.
The P-40K was similar to the earlier and popular P-40E but with a more powerful engine and improved ammunition storage to reduce gun stoppages.
This made it heavier but it had good performance, particularly at low altitude.
This model represents Curtiss P-40K-1 of the 64th FS/57th Fighter Group flown by First Lieutenant R J ‘Jay’ Overcash at Hani Main in Tunisia in April 1943.
