History

The Dewoitine 520DC (Double Commande) was a two seat trainer conversion of the standard Dewotine 520 fighter. Fourteen were converted and served in the French Air Force between 1946 and 1953.

Immediately after the liberation of France in 1945 forty surviving Dewotine 520s were gathered with the intention of converting them to Dewoitine 520DC (Double Commande) trainers.

The first conversion was made in late in 1945 by placing a second seat in the space behind the cockpit and the first flight of the training aircraft took place on 19 October 1945.

An order was placed with SNCAC in Colomba for another 20 similar conversions but only 14 machines were actually produced.

They were used by training units and two were transferred to a special demonstration squadron, ‘Patrouille d’Etampe’ and took part in various air shows until 1953.

This model represents a standard Dewoitine 520DC in about 1948.
