The Goodyear F2G was a development of the Vought F4U Corsair fitted with a much more powerful engine. It’s performance was disappointing and it did not enter production so only ten were manufactured.

The Goodyear F2G was an attempt to improve the performance of the Vought F4U Corsair by giving it an engine with fifty percent more power to create a very fast interceptor.

Goodyear was licence building F4Us as the FGs and used them as the basis for its development.

The prototype made its first flight on 15 July 1945 but production orders were cancelled at the end of the war so only ten F2Gs were manufactured.

They had handling problems and their performance was only comparable with the Grumman F8F which did go into production

This model represents XF2G-1 in testing during 1944/45. It crashed and was destroyed at Akron, Ohio in December 1945.
