History

The Latécoère 298 was a torpedo bomber and reconaissance seaplane designed for the French Navy in 1933. It served widely with French forces during the war and remained in service until 1946.

The Latécoère 298 was designed to meet a 1933 French Navy requirement for a new torpedo bomber and reconaissance seaplane.

The prototype first flew on 8 May 1936 and a total of 177 were ordered.

By the end of 1939 they equipped four squadrons of the French Navy operating in two land based and two seaplane based squadrons.

They were initially used in coastal patrol work and, during the German invasion, in ground attack roles. They were still in service at the end of the war.

This model represents a Latécoère 298 of Escadrille HB1, c.1939.
