The Messerchmitt Bf109 was Germany’s main fighter and remained competitive due to improvements throughout World War II. The Bf109E-3 was the main German fighter during the Battle of Britain and the equal of Britian’s Hurricanes and Spitfires.

The first Bf109s entered German service in 1937 and fought in the Spanish Civil War.

They evolved quickly to the E version and over 1,200 E-3 versions were manufactured in 1939 and 1940 before production was moved on to even more advanced versions.

This model represents the Bf109E-3 flown by Oberleutnant Ernst Terry, Adjutant of I/JG 51 who scored approximately 6 victories during Battle of Britain.

He went missing in action on 29 October 1940, South of Dover over the English Channel.

The aircraft sports a small Terrier Dog painting under the cockpit area on both sides..
