The Messerchmitt Bf109 was (with the Focke Wulf Fw190) the backbone of the Luftwaffe’s fighter force during World War II. They entered service in 1937 and served to the end of the war in a series of an increasingly powerful versions. Almost 34,000 were made.

The G version of the Bf109 was a development of earlier versions with improvements like a new DB605 engine, reinforced wing structure and revised cockpit armour and framing.

The first, the G-1 was produced from February 1942 and the G-6 model, which incorporated further changes including larger machine guns, began appearing in February 1943.

It was one of the most produced versions of this aircraft with over 12,000 being manufactured until well into 1944.

This model represents the Bf109G-6 flown by Major Kurt Brandle of II./JG3 in 1943.
