History

The Miles Magister was a light training aircraft designed and manufactured in Britain before and during World War II. After the war many were sold into private ownership around the world.
The Miles Magister was designed as an initial trainer for the Royal Air Force.

It was based on, and a slight improvement of, the earlier Miles Hawk Trainer.

The first one made its first flight on 20 March 1937 and production began in October 1938.

By the time production ended in 1941 1,203 hade been produced and they eventually served in 16 Elementary Flying Schools.

One Magister was imported into Australia and tested against the initial trainers already here in May 1940, but Magisters were not produced in Australia.

After the war surplus Magisters were sold as popular light aircraft and many were exported around the world.

This model represents Magister A15-1, RAAF, No.1 Flight Training School, Point Cook in May 1940.
