History

The Morane Type N was the forerunner of all modern fighters. Although it was not produced in large numbers and did not have a distinguished service record it inspired following designs with the innovations it introduced.

The Morane N first appeared at an air meet in Australia in June 1914.

They appeared over the Western Front in mid 1915, armed with a machine gun firing through the propeller arc that was protected by deflection plates.

It saw only limited French service and flew with four Royal Flying Corps squadrons from March 1916.

A number also went to Russia where they achieved some success.

They were the only fighters of the time capable of competing with the Fokker Eindeckers which had been largely modelled on them, but they were soon replaced by much more advanced fighters..

This model represents a Morane Type N in Imperial Russian service during World War I.
