The Mudry CAP 231EX is a member of the family of CAP 23x competition aerobatic aeroplanes. It has a wooden fuselage and carbon-fiber wings. Pilots flying it have won three World Aerobatic Championships.

The Mudry CAP 231 was developed in 1985 from the earlier CAP 21 for the French Air Force which used them for its aerobatics team.

The first version, the CAP 230, was introduced to service in 1986. It has a full wooden construction and can withstand more than 10 G forces with a 270 degrees/second roll rate.

The CAP 231 EX is based on the CAP 230 but has a carbon-fiber wing specially designed for durability and light weight, giving it a roll rate of 420 degrees/second and a climb rate of nearly 3,300 feet per minute.

The World Aerobatic Championships were won in this aircraft in 1998, 2000 and 2007. The later CAP 232 was basically a CAP 231EX with a slightly strengthened fuselage.
