History

The Piaggio Avanti is an Italian designed executive transport. It has several novel design features which put it into a unique class between traditional turboprop aeroplanes and small executive jets.

The Piaggio Avanti is an Italian designed executive transport aeroplane.

Design studies began in 1980, initially with Learjet although that partnership ended in 1986.

The prototype made its first flight on 23 September 1986 and the type was granted certification in Italy and the United States in October 1990.

Unusual design features include small forewings, pusher propellers, high aspect ratio wings and an airfoil shaped fuselage that is said to generate twenty per cent of the Avanti’s total lift.

Two hundred and forty-six had been delivered by December 2020.

This model represents EC-LPJ flown by Gestair Private Jets in February 2015.

Amodel 1/72 kit completed by Leigh Edmonds in November 2015.
