History

The Republic XF-103 was an attempt to construct a very high performance interceptor in the early 1950s.

However the goals set for this aircraft were beyond the reach of capabilities at the time and the project was not finished.

The Republic XF-103 was planned as a weapons system capable of flying at high speed to high altitudes to intercept Russian bombers.

The advanced technology necessary to achieve this goal included construction in titanium with advanced turbojet and ramjet engines and high technology radar and missiles.

The XF-103 was one of three new aircraft ordered in 1951, the others became the Convair F-102 and the Lockheed F-104.

However the goals set for the XF-103 were beyond the technological capabilities of the early 1950s and the project was cancelled in 1957.

This model represents the full-scale mockup of the XF-103 in March 1953..
