History

The SAN Jodel D.140 was an enlarged version of the earlier Jodel D.117.

It was a light touring aeroplane and proved popular in Europe.

A number were also acquired by the Armee de l’Air and used a primary trainers.

The SAN Jodel D.140 was developed by the Société Aeronautique Normande (SAN) as an enlarged version of the Jodel 117 which it was producing under licence.

This new version, first called the Jumbo Jodel, was designed as a light touring aeroplane capable of carrying up to five people (a pilot and four passengers).

The prototype made its first flight on 4 July 1958 and 243 were factory-made and a further 20 were built from plans.

They were constructed in five versions, the first two with a shorter tail and the final version as a gilder tug.

The French Armee de l’Air purchased both the standard and target tug versions for use as primary trainers.

This model represent YG, serial number 212 of the Armee de l’Air at the Salon de Provence in 1982.
