The Wassmer WA.20 Javelot (Javelin) was designed and constructed in the mid 1950s to provide gliding in France with a new, high performance glider. It was soon superseded by more advanced Wassmer gliders.

Wassmer began as a woodworking company established by Bernard Wassmer in 1905.

It began manufacturing aircraft in 1955 when it produced a batch of Jodel D.112 two-seat light aeroplanes.

It subsequently manufactured a small range of powered light aircraft.

Around the same time Wassmer also began design of a new single-seat glider that would provide French gliding clubs with a modern, light and affordable glider.

The result was the WA.20 Javelot. The first Javelot made its maiden flight on 2 August 1956 and it subsequently underwent an intensive period of testing to prove its capabilities.

Despite it’s success only twelve Javelots were manufactures. The main reason was the evolution of the original design into the WA.21 Javelot II and WA.22 Super Javelot.

This model represents F-CBGZ, the seventh Javelot to be manufactured.
