History
The Yak-27K was an interceptor fighter developed in the USSR in the late 1950s. It was one of several versions of the Yak-27, this one armed with two K-8 air-to-air missiles. It did not proceed to production
The Yak-27 was a successor to the earlier Yak-25 that was produced in numbers from the early 1950s.
The Yak-27 was similar in appearance but more streamlined and with more powerful engines.
It was initially designed as an interceptor in two versions, the Yak-27 which was armed with guns and the Yak-27K which was armed with air-to-air missiles.
Although it exceeded expectations its performance was inferior to Sukhoi Su-9 and thus it did not enter production.
Another high altitude interceptor, the Yak-27V, was also built but did not see production
In 1960 the Yak-27R, a modified reconnaissance version with a transparent nose, was ordered into production and 165 were built.
This model represents the only Yak-27K.
