History

The Airbus A.220 is a medium size jet airliner designed and manufactured in North America. It is very popular, at the end of February 2020 111 had been delivered and 547 were on order.

The Airbus A.220 began as the Bombardier C Series airliner first planned in Canada in the late 1990s as a replacement for such existing airliners as the Douglas DC-9/Boeing 717.

Due to the state of the global economy, the cost of the project and Bombardier’s financial problems, work did not start on it until 2007, the prototype first flew on 16 September 2013 and they were introduced to service in July 2016.

Due to Bombardier’s problems Airbus gradually became involved in the project and the airliner was rebranded the Airbus A.220 in July 2018.

This model represents HB-JBA flying for Swiss Airlines in 2019.
