The Airbus A.300 was the first design a European airliner construction consortium. The A.300, became very popular and launched the successful Airbus line of airliners including A.320s, A.330s and A.350s.
The Airbus A.300 grew out of a European realization that they were more likely to succeed if they collaborated rather than competed in developing a new, larger civil airliner.
Airbus was formed initially by French and German companies with other European companies joining later.
Their first collaboration was the A.300, the world’s first widebody twin jet airliner.
The first one made its first flight on 28 October 1972 and they were introduced into service in May 1974.
