The Antonov An-10 was developed in the late 1950s to give the Soviet Union a large capacity turboprop airliner. They flew with Aeroflot, often to underdeveloped aerodromes, between 1959 and 1972.

Development of the An-10 began in 1955 to produce a medium range airliner, based on the smaller twin engined Antonov An-8.

The first prototype flew on 7 March 1957, production began that year and 104 were manufactured.

At first they suffered from lateral stability problems, leading to modifications that resulted in the An-10A.

The An-10 was first demonstrated in public in July 1957 and they began Aeroflot services on 22 July 1959.

They were popular due to their large volume and excellent field operation from small, undeveloped airfields. .They were withdrawn from service in August 1972 after an accident revealed serious metal fatigue problems.

This model represents an Antonov An-10A in service with Aeroflot in the early 1960s.
