History

The Antonov An-32 is a short to medium range air transport developed in Russia to supercede earlier An-24 and An-26 air transports.

It has proved very popular and served with military services and airlines around the world.

Development of the An-24 air transport began in 1957 and the prototype flew in 1959.

Some 1100 were produced before it was replaced by the An-26 fitted with a rear loading ramp and other improvements, and about 1400 were built, most seeing military service.

The An-32 was developed from the An-26 with improved capabilities and the engines mounted higher on the wing.

The prototype was revealed in 1977 and it remained in widespread military and civil service into the new century.

This model represents an An-32 serving in the Tactical transport role in the Russian Air Force in the 1990s.
