History

The Boeing 720 was a version of the Boeing 707 jet airliner modified for the domestic American market. They had a shorter fuselage and lighter wings. Only 154 were manufactured as they were superceded by the Boeing 727.

The Boeing 720 was a revised and lighter version of the Boeing 707 with a shorter fuselage and simplified wings.

The first 720 flew on 23 November 1959 and they began entering service with United Airlines on 5 July 1960.

Only 154 Boeing 720s were manufactured because they were supplanted by the Boeing 727 in the medium-range, high performance market from the mid 1960s.

After they were replaced in front line airliner service they went on to fly with many second level airlines in South America and elsewhere around the world.

This model represents N7079 of Braniff International Airways in the ‘jelly bean’ scheme of the mid 1960s.
