History
The Boeing 777 is a very popular modern wide-body airliner with over 1000 currently in service. The 777-200 is the shorter of two versions currently in production and was the first to enter airline service.
The Boeing 777 was designed to fill the gap in passenger capacity between its 747 and 767 airliners.
It was designed in conjunction with eight major airlines and was the first airliner to be designed entirely on computers, allowing virtual assembly so that mockups and prototypes were unnecessary.
The first 777 made its first flight on 12 June 1994 and they began entering service in May 1995.
The 777 has been very popular and 1,017 were in airline service by July 2102.
