The Breguet 763 Deux Ponts (literally ‘Two Decks’) was designed in the mid 1940s and began entering service in the early 1950s. Despite its relative success the arrival of jet airliners limited its career and it was retired in the early 1970s.

Development of this airliner began in 1944 so production could begin as quickly as possible after the war.

The prototype first flew on 15 February 1949 and they began entering service with Air France in March 1953.

That airline operated a fleet of twelve 763 mainly on routes from Paris to the south of France and Mediterranean destinations but the introduction of the jet powered Caravelle made the 763 obsolete.

Some were transferred to the French Air Force and the rest were used as freighters until they were withdrawn from service in March 1971.
