The Jetstream 31 was a small airliner initially designed by Handley Page in the 1960s. It was upgraded with more powerful engines in the 1980s and proved popular with many regional airlines around the world.

The prototype Jetstream 31 made its first flight on 28 March 1980.

It was based on a design by Handley Page that was manufactured by Scottish Aviation with two Turbomeca engines.

When British aviation companies were amalgamated into British Aerospace in 1978 the Jetstream was upgraded with more powerful engines which allowed it to carry up to 18 passengers.

Production continued until 1993 by which time 386 had been produced.

The Jetstream 31 was very popular with smaller airlines and 128 remained in operation in December 2008.

Skywest is a Western Australian regional airline that began services in 1963.

This model represents VH-ESW flying with Skywest in 1989.
