History

The Colonial Viper VIIe was a modified version of the Viper VIIa fighter designed to give the Colonial Battlestar fleet the capability of destroying large targets at extreme range. Due to its high cost only 26 were ever made.

The Colonial Viper VII was a continuation of the original Viper design which began entering service during the First Cylon War.

The Viper VII was a follow-on design from earlier Viper IVs and Vs but with reduced mass.

This reduction was made up for by improved computer hardware and data linking between Vipers, Battlestars and ground based bases.

The VII was also designed to the same general size and weight as the earlier Viper IIs so it could use the existing launch tubes on Basttlestars.

The Viper VIIe was a heavily modified version of the Viper VIIa equipped to carry and launch the Harbinger 4 long range attack missile fitted with the 2 teratonne anti-matter fusion weapon.

It was designed to give the Colonial Fleet a low-cost, long-range high-devastation weapon.

This model represents Viper VIIe B-16 in service with Special Detachment 104 on the Battlestar Pegasus at the beginning of the Fall of the Twelve Colonies.
