The Lockheed Have Blue was a top secret experimental aeroplane designed and flown to test the concept of a ‘stealth’ fighter. It led to the development and manufacture of the Lockheed F-117 attack fighter

The Lockheed Have Blue was designed to test the concept of an aeroplane possessing minimal radar returns and was the first such aeroplane to be designed for its stealth rather than an aerodynamic qualities.

It’s plate-like, faceted shape was designed to deflect electromagnetic waves, greatly reducing its radar signature.

Two aeroplanes were built and the first one made its maiden flight on 1 December 1977.

They were both tested for flight dynamics and the radar returns of the stealth concept and made many top secret flights from Groom Lake in Nevada between 1977 and 1979.

They were both destroyed in flying accidents but proved the concept of what became the Lockheed F-117.

This model represents one of the two Have Blue aeroplanes.
