History
The Lockheed Martin RQ-170 is a secret aeroplane designed in the Lockeed Skunk Works and produced in low numbers. It is a reconnaissance drone, but little more concrete is known about it.
Very little is known about the Lockheed Martin RQ-170 which was designed in the Lockheed Skunk Works.
It designation indicates that it is a reconnaissance drone and it’s shape is designed for low observability.
An estimated 20-30 have been made and they were introduced to service in 2007, initially with the 30th Reconnaissance Squadron.
They are based in the United States and have been observed in Afghanistan and South Korea.
The US Air Force occasionally released details about this aeroplane but very little about its activities. One, operated by the CIA, was lost over Iran and that country claims to have reverse engineered its own version of this aeroplane.
This model represents a RQ-170 in service with the 30th Reconnaissance Squadron, USAF, in around 2010.
