History

The F-104 was originally designed as a light-weight high-speed interceptor. Redesigned as the F-104G multi-role fighter it was highly successful and served with air forces around the world from the 1960s.

The F-104 was originally designed as a light-weight interceptor that flew for the first time in December 1955.

It served with the USAF with little successful so it was only constructed in small numbers.

In 1956 Lockheed began redesigning it as a multi-role fighter to meet a German requirement and after it was ordered for the Luftwaffe in 1959 it was ordered by many other European nations, eventually serving with most NATO air forces.

Eventually over 2500 F-104s saw service in a number of versions

This model represents a TF-104G in service with the Danish Air Force during the 1970s.
