History
The MiG-19 was one of the most successful fighters produced by the Mikoyan design bureau but that success was overshadowed by the later MiG-21. It was a well designed, robust and highly manoeuvrable supersonic fighter
Design of the MiG-19 commenced in the late 1940s to give Russia a fully supersonic fighter.
The first flight was made in September 1953 and they began entering service in 1956.
Despite their effectiveness production in Russia continued until only 1959 and about 1000 were produced, flying with Russian and most Warsaw Pact countries.
In 1958 Chine began licence production with the designation J-6 and eventually produced over 2000 for its own air forces as well as other countries including Pakistan.
This model represents a MiG-19 in service in the East German air force about 1965.
