History

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-3 was a Soviet interceptor fighter.

Construction began in December 1940 and it was built in large numbers during 1941. It was, however, difficult to fly and suffered heavy losses so it was soon replaced by other fighters.

The writing on the port side fuselage translates as “For the Motherland” a very common practice for Russian aircraft and armour.

There are photos showing this aircraft as being captured by the Germans in late 1941 after it was damaged and left at a Soviet airfield, possibly in the Northern Sector.

Colours are typical early Soviet, AMT-4/ A-24M Green, Black 6RP and AMT-7 Light Blue undersides. Cockpit light blue and steel.

Trumpeter 1/32 kit with Eduard aftermarket seat belts (don’t look too close as they are German styled, but they look good). Painted in AK Real Colors lacquers. Completed by Wayne in 2021.
