History

The Schleicher ASW 28 is a modern standard class high performance glider manufactured in Germany of fibre reinforced composites. The first one flew in 2000 and over 150 have been made.

The Schleicher ASW 28 is a standard class glider designed to meet the specifications of the FAI Gliding Commission, the sporting body overseeing international air sports. This limits the glider to a wingspan of 15 metres with other restrictions.

Alexander Schleicher GmbH was founded in 1927 and has designed and made gliders continuously ever since (with a short break after World War II).

It’s ASW series of gliders, designed by Gerhard Waibel, began in 1965 with the ASW 12 Open Class glider of fibre glass construction and developed though a number of high performance gliders to the ASW 28 which first flew in 2000.

It is constructed in fibre reinforced composites.

A version with wing extensions to 18 metres has been produced as well as a version with a 18 horsepower sustainer motor.
