The Vickers Viscount was the first turbojet airliner to enter service in the world. It went on to become one of the most successful of the first generation post World War II air transports with 445 being built.

Development of the Vickers Viscount began in 1945, the prototype made its first flight on 16 July 1948 and they entered service with BEA in July 1950.

After flying on major airline routes Viscounts went on to fly for many second level and charter airlines and at least one was still flying in 2010.

The 700 series Viscount was the first production version. Twenty were registered in Australia, flying with Ansett-ANA, TAA, Butler Air Transport and MMA.

This model represents VH-RMQ operated under lease from Ansett-ANA by McRobertson Miller Airlines.  It crashed near Port Hedland on 31 December 1968 killing all on board.
