The Vought F4U Corsair was one of the most powerful aircraft to see service flying from aircraft carriers during World War II. They were very useful and successful so they continued in service with several air force well after that war.

The Vought F4U-4B was an improved version of earlier F4Us with a more powerful engine, a four blade propeller and other improvements to increase its performance.

It also had an improved windscreen to remove the optical distortion of earlier versions and four 20mm cannon that replaced the earlier six 12/7mm machine guns.

The first production F4U-4 flew in September 1944 and they arrived at the war front in June 1945.

This model represents F4U-4B BuNo 62924, ‘309′ with V tail code, of VF-113 Stingers.
