History

The Airbus A.340-200 is a long range version of the Airbus family of jet airliners. They began entering service in the early 1990s and have become popular with intercontinental airlines around the world.

The A.340-200 was the first version of the A.340 series of airliners. The only significant difference from the -300 version is that the -200 was designed to carry less payload but fly longer ranges than its lengthier companion with both being capable of flying stages of over 13,000 kilometres.

The first A.340-200 flew on 1 April 1992 and both it and the -300 have proved popular with many airlines but, of the 233 in service towards the end of 2002, only 26 were -200 versions.

This model represents D-AIBA, the first A.340 to fly for Lufthansa
